However, due to the flooding, we were not only received but were accompanied by police who acted as our personal bodyguards.

Long, continuous periods of heavy rain caused flooding, landslides, and rockslides in Baluchistan and Sindh Provinces. Millions of disaster victims and Afghani refugees have been made shelter-less wanderers – among whom, of course, are many brothers and sisters in the Lord.

Q City seems to be exactly like a suburban area of a city in Xinjiang Province except for one aspect: only one road, one railroad line, and one main bridge connect Q City with the rest of the country; and its electric power comes from outside the province. Floods have destroyed public facilities, roads, electric power facilities, the internet, and gas lines, leaving Q City alone, cut off from the rest of the country. Of course, you can imagine what has happened to people living here without rice, without flour, without oil … How can they survive?

A week before our trip, I began contacting a brother here every day so we would know the situation. The day we set out, electric power and gas still had not been restored.

Perhaps you don’t remember the deaths of a Chinese missionary couple whose blood was spilt in this city not long ago. But when my father, and also Johnny, shared their hearts, my wife and I were also moved, so we decided to come help the brothers and sisters here. But to be honest we both were a little bit worried because we have two daughters, one seven years old and the other eight months. Both are so young! If by some chance the unexpected should happen to us, they might be left without a complete family. But after prayer we still decided to go because we knew the people there need help!

We thank God that the Good Shepherd was with us and led us all the way! We arrived safe and sound in Q City and were received by a local church pastor. Along the way as we saw roads, houses, and factories destroyed by the flooding. As we thought of the suffering of brothers and sisters whose homes had been destroyed by the flood, our hearts couldn’t help weeping for them.

We arrived on a Sunday. After church we went out and began looking for supplies. From then until about 10 p.m., we looked in different shops and supermarkets; but due to the shortages we were not able to buy the most important thing — wheat flour to make bread. The second day we went out all day and searched in all the big and small markets we could find; but at the end of the day, all we could do was wait to see if what merchants had promised us would come to pass. At that point we prayed urgently and asked God to open a way for us — we couldn’t do what we had come to do! But with God, all things are possible! On the third day, basically we were able to obtain everything we needed; on the fourth, we picked up the supplies, divided them up, and packaged them to prepare for the work of distributing them the next day. The fifth day, which was just one day before we were scheduled to leave, we helped with the distribution of the food portions. When we saw those weary brothers and sisters getting the food supplies, their faces all looking so blessed and satisfied, we knew the Lord had led the two of us in accordance with His good pleasure! Early the following day, we left to return home. We thank Pastor Johnson and his family, who accompanied us everywhere, and the brothers and sisters there. What we ourselves did was almost nothing, but at the end God’s love had warmed the hearts of brothers and sisters there!

Sincerely, Glen and Maya

Joshua and Samuel are the Giles family’s disciples in Q City.
