You will be satisfied, and Nexus will be satisfied when we come together to satisfy the Lord\u2019s desires … but in Olive City, sanctions on the country by both America and Europe have made a bad situation even worse. People there can\u2019t even tell if the people lying dead on the streets died from the coronavirus or from starvation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The famine is severe! Abandoned by her husband, a single mother in the House of Hope family had taken on financial responsibility for her family. She has to feed her children and her elderly. Her face was streaming with tears as she sobbed out, \u201cWe\u2019re at the very end!\u201d She had no hope in her eyes but just wanted to find someone to pour her heart out to. The coworker gave her an \u2018interfaith hug\u2019 … The House of Hope is helping 120 similar families, walking with them through this extremely difficult time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Since the pandemic began, Nexus has been conducting relief projects in all fields. We are experiencing \u2018100-fold harvest in the land of famine\u2019 and witnessing how \u2018the cloud\u2019 is surrounding believers. However, if we compare the huge need in every field to our small ability to help, we seem to be trying to put out a forest fire with a cup of water. But…David was able to defeat the giant Goliath, and prayer has opened heaven and brought rain! God is pleased when His children come together in agreement to pray, confess the sins of the land, and ask Him for healing. Prayer is more important than relief work, so stop one minute for Jesus! Our Father in heaven can do what we cannot–He can help more disaster victims and save more souls!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Coworkers send Scripture verses every day to families who are receiving assistance, and God\u2019s Word brings encouragement, comfort, and hope. Alan is a lovable, handsome boy. In his young, tender voice, he told us, \u201cI have no father, so Mother takes care of me. If we didn\u2019t have your help, I couldn\u2019t buy anything at all. Thank you very much! Because of your help, I can buy food. I want to give you a kiss.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c…and if you extend your soul to the hungry and satisfy the afflicted soul…\u201d (Isaiah 58:10)<\/p>\n\n\n\n You can become a \u2018financial father\u2019… or mother, elder brother, or elder sister … to Alan and other fatherless children like him (Please see attachment). June 2020 Project Cake – Bringing Unexpected New Hope Olive City — \u201cProject Cake\u201d Introduction \u2013 Rebirth After Disaster: <\/p>\n\n\n\n Refugees in the mountain area number about 1600, and elderly and children who have no relatives to depend on are lacking food. The mountain area is isolated from the rest of the world, so at present none of the refugees have contracted the virus, thank God for His protection! However, with the rainy season come more landslides, and roads in the mountain area become impassable, so people have to plan to have enough food stored up. Brother Tai plans to take food supplies there next month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The coronavirus forced 65 students to return home to their villages. Now there are just seven left at Grace Center, two of whom are orphans, and the others are soldiers\u2019 children. We bought four computers and a printer so the children can attend classes online. We also take food twice a week to the children who had to go home, including meat and vegetables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The end of last month there was a thunderstorm that wrecked 8 out of 13 houses in the village, but no serious injuries occurred. Afterwards they did their best temporarily to repair damage by rebuilding or joining houses together and so they can get through this time. If conditions permit, next month Brother Tai hopes to purchase construction materials to help them make proper repairs. Farmers\u2019 income here has taken a big hit from the virus: the bananas and watermelons, which were difficult to cultivate, have already rotted away in the fields because no one harvested them–the farmers\u2019 efforts this season were all wasted!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now the weather in Banana City is sweltering hot and very rainy, and recently we\u2019ve had a breakout of malaria. Medical facilities here are backward and inadequate, so it\u2019s very hard for patients to get proper treatment. Carrying out relief work in Banana City has many difficulties! But may the Lord open the way for the Southeast Asia team to become a channel that \u2018circulates\u2019 the blessings of Jesus Christ to all the people!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sincerely,\n\nThe Southeast Asia Team – Brother Tai and his wife, Zane and his wife, and Brother Yuen\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n The epidemic situation in Friendship City is very bad. First the government locked down cities, then restarted the economy; but because the virus then began to spread more, some cities are again in lockdown. Hospitals are full, and some of the sick are dear brothers and sisters. The plague is severe; hospitals don\u2019t have enough respirators, even to the point that they refuse to receive sick people, saying they don\u2019t have any more room or any ability to help. Some patients are dying in the ambulances on the way to the hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We\u2019ve had to slow down our relief work as the pandemic is worsening. Now we are just able to keep delivering food to the orphanage. Who is willing to stop one minute for Jesus and pray for us?<\/p>\n\n\n\n From the Ken family<\/p>\n\n\n\n South Asia – Water City<\/p>\n\n\n\n Water City has been going through the same thing as Friendship City – first lockdown, then restarting the economy, and then into partial lockdown again because of new coronavirus outbreaks. The situation is very severe. Slum families all depend on a day\u2019s wages to live for that day–for example they drive a tricycle taxi for a day, and that day\u2019s fares provide their family\u2019s food for the day. Working with a local church, we distribute food packets through the slum church and school and are providing for 50 families. Each week, each family gets 5 kg of rice, 1 kg of onions, 2 kg of potatoes, a half-liter bottle of cooking oil, and 1 kg of lentils (locally called \u2018daal\u2019). These simple foods are enough to feed the family for a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now the pandemic situation here is peaking. Although on June 1 the government announced the reopening of some areas, the number of infected people is also increasing rapidly, and due the situation we also have had temporarily to stop distributing food packets. We were trying to find protective suits but couldn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Thank God that just at this time, the church in Suzhou, China, donated 10,800 masks and 600 anti-bacterial protective suits. After being transported and clearing customs smoothly all within two weeks, the items were in our coworkers\u2019 hands. But the pandemic situation is very severe. May God help Water City coworkers to have great wisdom and strategies to deliver items to hospitals, churches, and slums in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jeremy and Iris<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNot lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord\u201d (Romans 12:11).<\/p>\n\n\n\n During these few months, the pandemic, the economy, and protest demonstrations have all been getting worse. The government has been unable to find solutions to problems. People have lost their direction; they can\u2019t decide which is more important: to have everything locked down and make the utmost effort to stop the virus, or to have the economy restarted so there won\u2019t be a famine. Some families, unable to pay their rent, have been expelled from their homes. We saw a man searching in the garbage for food for his pregnant wife. It seemed the man looked hungrier than his pregnant wife. When he found something to eat he shared it with her. That was the only choice they had left in order to survive–and especially, to provide for the child in the mother\u2019s womb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We have Bible study online, and we pray for the nations each time we meet. Parents of the young people are amazed at the changes in the lives and habits of their kids, who are reading the Bible at home. One of the young people, after having the online Bible study time, read the Bible to her (illiterate) mother and also shared with her mom what she had got out of the Bible study. She encouraged her mom to speak or pray to Jesus in any way she liked, the most important thing being wholeheartedly to seek Jesus. Even though we are under lockdown right now, Jesus is open to listen to us, so everything is possible! In this young people\u2019s group, Jesus has done great things for them–praise the Lord!<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n This is Mr. Malau, an elderly ironsmith. <\/em>Eight years ago, he got an electric shock that paralyzed him. His divorced son has two small sons, ages 4 and 10, and the divorced son depends on his daily earnings, living day to day. But due to the coronavirus he has been unable to find work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When he saw our coworkers had brought a food packet to their door, Mr. Malau began to cry–he was in dire need of that food! We\u2019d included a Scripture verse in it to help them find the right way. Before we left, we encouraged him, telling him that God is the only Healer, Jesus knows their situation and will hear their prayers, and that we would keep praying for him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On June 8th, the Hope House started classes, reorganized, cleaned, renovated, partitioned the rooms, greeted the children, and served them hot meals.
