Just How Cold Has This Cold Spell Been?

“He casts forth His ice as fragments; who can stand before His cold?” Psalm 147:17
Our Creator’s empathy with our weakness displays His greatness, as the Scripture says, “What is man, that You are mindful of him?”

Since 2011, severe winters in Lychee City, and also in Tree City in the Levant, have descended upon the homeless war refugees. Residents of the camps—mostly elderly, women, and children–have been subjected to severe cold, hunger, and sicknesses such as malaria, bronchitis, dysentery, etc. Medicine has been very hard to get. Despite all this, refugees in Lychee City are still acting in a dignified and orderly way because most of them are believers.

Like vinegar poured on wounds, the frigid winter has made their difficult lives even worse. Crowding together trying to keep warm, children sleep on the floors of their drafty shacks. Every time their mother thinks of their thin little bodies, she feeds them the all the meager amount of meat and vegetables that she can, even going hungry herself for many nights in a row—this is a daily reality around here! Unless peace comes, these mothers and children will have to go through the entire winter this way, since they can’t return to their homes.

The winter in Lychee City’s mountainous area has been especially cold. We’ve been able to give them blankets to wrap themselves in because of your love…but the children still aren’t warm enough. We’ve given meat and vegetables personally to mothers and children, and we’ve heard the songs and the celebration of Christmas on the mountains of Lychee City. But we still don’t know just how cold this winter is going to get, or how long it’s going to last! Our cry is that it isn’t going to be too cold, and that neither our children, nor far-away children, will go hungry in the cold weather! We believe you have the same hope and prayer as we do, and we hope we can help make these children’s dreams come true: that they can have enough to eat every day, they won’t be too cold in winter, they can go to school every day, and they can come to know our Heavenly Father!

Lychee City 2018 Work Report

We visited and served refugee camps several times: we made twenty visits (distributing goods, conducting Bible classes, giving encouragement, teaching farming skills, etc.). Goods distributed included seven tons of new and used clothing, quilts, etc.
 ‘Distribution of goods’ included food (pork, cooking oil, vegetables, and rice), gasoline; hydroelectric generators; installation of railings, laying water pipes to bring clean water to school and camp, building a greenhouse for planting seedlings, etc.

Banana City 2018 Work Report

We visited and served thirteen times (distributing goods, conducting Bible teaching, encouraging, etc.) and distributed fifteen tons of new and used clothing, quilts, etc.

Distribution of good included daily household needs, food, and medicines. Also, we helped pay living expenses for nineteen students, helped two Christian families who fled from persecution to build makeshift homes, helped three people who were sick to go to the hospital for treatment, etc.

Chinese New Year will soon be here, and this time we’re giving to each of our workers a gift of two woolen quilts and two filtration pitchers.

Thank God for allowing Nexus, along with Hong Kong pastors, to serve the Brazilian church and the Chinese churches of Brazil! May God’s love be spread all over the world!
