Kairos Opportunity – “A Bite to Eat For the Hungry”

Dear Pastors, Churches and Friends of Nexus, Greetings in His Name!

Nexus Mission is launching Project “Kairos Opportunity — A Bite to Eat For the Hungry”

Goal: To provide 3000 food packages at $21 USD or $160 Hong Kong Dollars each, to supply disaster-stricken and needy refugee families in Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Myanmar and Laos.

The 10-year war has already pushed Syrians to the brink of extreme poverty and hunger. The ones hardest hit is those who have been made orphans and widows by the war.

Lebanese Children Search for Food in Trash Near a Beirut Market

In the present devastating economic recession, poor families get almost no assistance from their communities. It’s hard to imagine that now almost a third of the children in this battered, beaten-down country often go to bed on empty stomachs.

The United Nations has warned that 77% of families in Lebanon now don’t have enough food or enough money to buy it; and among the Syrian refugees there this figure is as high as 90%. Globally, this is the worst economic collapse in recent history; and children are its first victims.

Hunger affects millions of families who live in a state of constant hunger. Long-term side effects include malnutrition, emaciation, and late physical development in children. Furthermore, during this time of famine, the land isn’t producing crops with the normal nutritional value because the land is being overworked; crops have been hurt and harvests reduced.

Afghani Children – Refugees in a Neighboring Country

Afghanistan

Many years of war have filled this nation with pain and bitterness, and Afghanistan is experiencing an exodus of historic proportions.

An estimated 3,500,000 Afghanis are homeless in their own country; and the United Nations warns that by the end of 2021 as many as 500,000 more will attempt to flee their country as refugees. Christians are estimated to number 8,000 to 12,000 in a population of 38 million, or about 0.02%.

Nexus is receiving Afghani refugees at the border, both Christians and non-Christians. We urgently request everyone to keep these brothers and sisters, who are in the midst of intense suffering in your prayers. Because both those ministering and those receiving help are in a very sensitive area, we can share only limited information about this work.

Famine Of The Century

While the “famine of the century” has involved the United Nations in one of its most complex operation ever; Nexus Mission has been serving disaster victims and refugees in these countries ever since the pandemic began spreading widely, working together with others against hunger.

Testimony of Syrian Food Packet Recipients

Syria – In this country already worn down to the limits of human survival, the House of Hope is still a beacon in the darkness:

6-year-old Fares was born in Douma, Syria — a city where nerve gas was used, a city destroyed and occupied by militant groups. His father had been kidnapped and his 14-year-old brother had died while fleeing. Fares was born into poverty, hunger, fear, and terror; but later he became one of the students at the House of Hope.

When he arrived, he had a violent temper, would always clash with the other children, and often spoke at the wrong times. He continued displaying aggressive behavior, loneliness, and unwillingness to join in group activities. But the House of Hope patiently, carefully taught and encouraged him to relate with the other students.

Finally, Fares was delivered from darkness. He began to get involved, play with others, and make friends at the House of Hope. God’s presence filled him and his mother with positive energy and changed their lives; Jesus became their Beacon!

Testimony of a Lebanese Recipient:

I am Souad. I am battling cancer. I was praying all the time that God would send somebody to help me. Suddenly one day I received generous help from Nexus Mission — a food packet! God had heard my prayer!

An Afghani Uzbek Muslim Woman and Her Children

Testimony of an Afghani Recipient:

Dahafer and his family used to live in a border city of one of Afghanistan’s neighbors. They are Afghani Uzbek Muslims who had always attended a madrasa (Islamic school). But after receiving a food packet, he and his younger brother began studying in a Christian school for the first time. Their family, including their father, have a very good relationship with Nexus coworkers.  

The word “Kairos” comes from Greek and means “God’s opportune time,” or “golden opportunity,”

that is, just before sunset or just after sunrise. When the lighting on a subject being photographed is just right, it gives a soft, warm tone to the picture. If the portrait photo of the bride and groom is planned for this moment of golden opportunity, the picture seems magical, right, natural, and perfect. How often do we miss opportunities – as the proverb goes, “The opportunity of a lifetime comes but once!”
