At War With Starvation — Many of Apricot City’s poor have been made homeless by the severe drought and war. Most of the population depend on farming or raising livestock for a living, so more and more of the poorest people are making a desperate decision similar to the following:

The husband in a family of eight didn’t tell his wife he was selling their 10-year-old daughter to be a wife for somebody’s son. But the down payment from the boy’s family gave them enough to provide for their other five children; otherwise they would all have starved. He had to sacrifice one in order to keep the others.

A Christmas Gift Story from the Children of a Refugee Camp: “Undying Love Is Warming Cold Hearts”

During this winter, which has been unusually cold, we saw the children in the Center wearing slippers without socks. So we bought warm shoes to bless all the students. The parents thanked us, “Now our children only take off their shoes when they go to sleep because when their feet are warm, their whole body feels warm.”

During the Christmas season, Nexus Mission organized Christmas events. About 2,000 people received our Christmas gifts, Christmas dinners, gifts, clothes, shoes, medicines, and food packs. Many of these people were invited to celebrate Christmas for the first time in their lives.

Tree City: Recently we bought three shipping containers

Two for use as classrooms and one for farm storage. Our Goals:

(1) A School, kindergarten through grade three, for 120 children

(2) Pioneer a second Nexus Center.

(3) Agriculture ministry: livestock, sheep, chickens, fruit trees and vegetables

Antioch Church: Eight MBB’s received water baptism.

Olive City: House of Hope at Christmas time

The House of Hope children sang songs and acted out the story of Jesus’ birth for their parents and guests (about 300 persons, all of Islamic background). They were touched by the performance and understood more about the true meaning of Christmas. After the celebration they said they wanted to share this story with everyone.

My name is Aya. I am 18 years old. I am Kurdish from Syria. Three years ago, I left school for many reasons. I started to serve at Nexus Center, where I learned many natural things (skills, language, computer, etc.) and spiritual things (especially that as believers we must apply what is written in the Bible). I had shared my dream with the Nexus team, that I wanted to continue my education and become a dentist. But I felt there was no hope or way for me to go back to school again. But the team kept praying and encouraging me.

Finally, God opened the way, and I decided to go back and continue studying. I started my school four months ago. I am very happy; and I am influencing my parents and friends. At the school everyone has noticed I am different — my attitude, my way… and I’m even the only one with better English and computer skills (because I got trained at Nexus). Even the teachers asked me, “Who taught you all this? You are different!” I’ve had two exams, and I got very high marks (I am second in my class). I am trying to share about Jesus, and my testimonies with my friends, and to be the light and salt for everyone. I believe this is God’s will for me: He promised us in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
