He Is My Refuge

On top of all its other difficulties, Olive City experienced a major earthquake in February 2023; and starting in October 2023, Tree City also added war to its many other problems. The war has not ended yet.

Where there is a need, there is an opportunity for us to serve the Lord! The teams in Tree City Nexus Center and Olive City House of Hope have never stopped serving under difficult circumstances; and furthermore, they are continuing to learn and improve. What makes us thankful is that God has opened more doors for us to serve  — we can bless and help more people. Here I would like to share with you some testimonies we’ve heard during this period. Tree City Nexus Center

Nexus School teaches English, Arabic, mathematics, biology, geography and civics to our students, as well as conducting various activities and serving meals twice a week — hot meals on Fridays and sandwiches on Tuesdays. (We provide more meals when we are able to.)

Youth Ministry: We teach young people geography, Arabic, civic education, science, English, mathematics, psychology and computer, in addition to conducting various activities and teaching discipleship and Bible classes.

Embracing Her Uniqueness

Hayat means “Life.” She has had a rough start, battling health issues and facing a challenging childhood.

Her struggles deepened when the school excluded her because of her condition. Although there are schools for children with special needs, her family couldn’t afford them. On top of that, she had suffered relentless bullying because of her having to use a wheelchair. She was left feeling hopelessly different from her peers.

Then her family heard about Nexus School. A glimmer of hope entered her mother’s heart, and she decided to try sending her daughter here. At the moment Hayat stepped into Nexus School, something extraordinary began to happen.

We were all amazed — even shocked — by the way the students welcomed her, not just welcoming, but embracing her with open arms and hearts. They didn’t see her as less valuable than themselves; instead, they celebrated Hayat’s uniqueness. Every day, her classmates gave her love, encouragement, and support. She soon cheered up, and her confidence began growing rapidly.

But what really touched her mother’s heart was witnessing her daughter’s transformation! Hayat went from feeling isolated and depressed to being a beacon of joy and hope. She eagerly shared every detail of her day with her family, each story filled with loving care and her newfound happiness. In a very short time, Hayat’s attendance at Nexus School not only changed her life but even her appearance! She went from darkness to light … from despair to hope!

Olive City House of Hope

House of Hope provides children and teenagers with teaching of various subjects, activities, help, and food, and one of our top priorities is to maintain good relationships with parents.

Our food ministry continues to help hungry children in Olive City. Every day, we walk the streets looking for and providing food to street children, bringing them moments of comfort and care.

It’s heartwarming to see the smiles on the children’s faces when they receive their food. For many of them, this is the only meal of the day. Their joy and gratitude inspire us to keep going

Blooming Faith

Leamar is a 10-year-old student at House of Hope who comes from an Islamic background. After being exposed to various teachings at House of Hope, she had many questions about Christianity: Who is Jesus? Why did He come to earth? Will He really never leave us? What did He do in His life? What were His miracles? She had many other questions, too … and we began answering them. Not long after, we received a call from her mother. At first we were concerned that Leamar’s family might not appreciate what we were teaching her, but the conversation turned out wonderfully.

The mother said, “My daughter has been asking a lot of questions about Jesus, and I see that she is feeling more peaceful and joyful. Her mood has improved. Honestly, I’m open-minded. If it brings her comfort, I hope that she can learn more about Christ. However, I know nothing about Jesus. Can your Center teach her?”

The team was surprised! We assured the mother that we could teach her daughter, and we invited her to come to the Center as well. The team spent more time with Leamar, sharing Bible stories and seeing that seed in her heart that was ready to blossom and grow. Let’s pray for Leamar! Let’s trust that God will open her heart and mind and pray that she experiences God every day!

Sometime this month, a staff member of Nexus Center said,

“What’s special about our school is that while all the public schools remain closed, Nexus Center remains open, serving as a beacon of hope during these turbulent times. Apart from a few private schools operating in limited Christian areas, we are the only school that has kept its doors open to provide education and the light of faith to those who need it most.”

We are grateful to God for keeping the co-workers of Tree City and Olive City safe during the present war! We thank Him that they continue to serve with all their heart and strength. We pray that God will let our Centers be a refuge for many helpless children. We also sincerely thank you for your support which enables our work to continue!
