Loving Your Neighbor – “Who Is My Neighbor? ”

Dear Friends of Nexus,

Greetings of Peace to you!

In the 1990’s, Johnny made his first visit to the country of South Africa, and there in far-away Africa he found many, many far-away neighbors who loved the church of China! At that time, although very few Chinese were living or even traveling in Africa, still God had put a great burden in the hearts of the South African church — a great love for the Chinese!

“Who Is My Neighbor?” (Luke 10:29-37)

The man wanted to show he was in the right, so he asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?” He didn’t say “I don’t love my neighbor,” but “Who is my neighbor?” — the definition isn’t clear! What, in fact, must I do in order to measure up to God’s requirement to love my neighbor?

Q: How Large Is Africa? 

A: Bigger than all of China, the United States, and Europe combined!

Q: How many Chinese are there? 

A: More than a million Chinese currently live in Africa!

Thank God! The church has completed the purchase of land for its facility. Please pray that all phases of construction and finishing go well.

Please Pray: The church plans to have services in both English and Chinese to minister to locals and Chinese residents alike. May the Lord lead, bless, and brings souls to Himself!

Continuing to ‘Overcome This Flood Disaster With Love’ — Pakistan

The flood engulfed all the mud dwellings in the city of Thar; Marwari brothers and sisters there have lost everything. They were delighted to see us and tearfully told us of their heart-wrenching experiences and present condition. They have now lost three harvests (together with the opportunity to make their living): cotton (in Sept-Oct), sugar cane (Dec-Jan), and wheat (Apr-May).

Cotton fields are still flooded; the Sindh’s entire cotton crop has withered. They’ve lost their food and their opportunity to work — it seems hopeless for them! We decided to provide food for them and help them build brick (not mud) houses before the onset of winter.

Our time of sharing food with them was blessed! Some who had had no interest in Jesus opened their hearts to hear God’s Word after receiving flood relief. Through this flood relief we can make new connections and establish God’s church among the Marwari Tribe!

A Piece of Rough Cloth — Sister Maya

When Sister Maya distributed women’s sanitary supplies, she learned local women don’t use them or else knew nothing about them. One young lady had picked up and used a discarded piece of rough cloth, not knowing there was a centipede in it; as a result, she’d had to be hospitalized for an operation.

Food and The Gospel:

Since many people are using cell phones, we distributed memory cards (SD cards) containing Bible stories to our ‘neighbors’ in Ghoti, sharing the Gospel through audiovisual means.

One SD card we gave to a friend named Murdo, a Baluchi Shia Muslim. He and his four brothers and their families watched the Bible stories, which not only aroused their great interest, but all their family members wanted to know more about Jesus. So we gave Murdo three copies of the Bible. We also answered some questions he had about Jesus and Christianity, and we prayed for him.

After two weeks, Murdo brought his children to us again. They also each wanted their own personal copy of the Bible. They had enjoyed reading the Bible we had given to Murdo and wanted to read it to their grandparents. Clearly, their interest was not just at the beginning — they also really wanted to keep learning!

After four more days the children brought their elder brother along. They had some questions about Nicodemus. In John 3:5, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, unless a man is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God.”

They wanted to know how they could be born again and what they had to do to escape hell! They were very afraid because the Last Day is near. They asked, “Uncle, Please tell us, How can we be born again and enter the Kingdom of Heaven?” We explained that the only way to be born again is by believing in Jesus.
