The Syrian and Iraqi refugee crisis is the greatest refugee crisis in the world today. The U.N. has not, and cannot, meet all of the needs, and many refugees have been without basic dental or medical care for years, being unable to pay for expensive local services. But our Brazilian partner in 2014 began a clinic to serve local Syrian and Iraqi refugees as well as the poor in the area. By far most of those served are Muslim.
The center has two dentists, one dental assistant, and one doctor on their team of volunteers, all of whom are Iraqi refugees. The clinic is now being run in a local church. Chinese workers serve in the church Sunday school and the refugees’ program. Nexus is supporting two containers’ (a forty-foot & a twenty-foot) aid, including medical equipment and a forty-foot container to supply dental and medical equipment and needs.
