2024 10 Nexus Mission Newsletter
Northern Thailand Mission Team Bringing Love and Healing
Dear Friends of Nexus,
In September 2024, northern Thailand (Coconut City, Grace Center) encountered the worst floods and typhoons in 30 years. In October, a Nexus Mission team visited.
Nexus Sister Candy shares:
Thank the Lord, the October mission trip was a success! The team of eleven people included four from China, four British Chinese, one from Taiwan, an American sister, and me. We are grateful that our team was very united and very happy. We served the children in the center every day. During the final gift-giving session, every child hugged us tightly and seemed reluctant for us to leave.
We witnessed the Lord leading Nexus, step by step, on this trip. Bro Tai from Nexus’s South Asia team and Brother Yuen’s family (daughter, son-in-law, and grandson) also came this time. We believe that God will use them to be salt and light in this land. During the trip, we shared the gospel with Thais, Burmese, and Laotians.
Nexus missionaries, Brothers Tai and Andy, received care and prayers from the British and Taiwanese pastors who came on the mission team. For the first time, I saw Brother Tai shed tears. They have been facing great pressure in their missionary work but have nevertheless continued serving the Lord Jesus faithfully.

Sharing from the China Mission Team:
This seven-day mission in Northern Thailand allowed me to see a lot, feel a lot, and gain a lot. There is a lot to record, and pen and ink have their limitations! There was a flood here a month ago. Five children were trapped in Grace Center (orphanage): three boys who could swim and two girls who could not. After two days and three nights in the water, they had no food left, so they went out to fish for any food they might find floating in the water. They said that finding some food made them feel like rich people! And of course, when they found some they ate it right up — they were so hungry! But when we asked if they had felt afraid, they said it was okay; they were not afraid because Jesus was there. My feelings about visiting Grace Center: I was simply shocked! I didn’t expect the environment to be so bad. Almost everything had been destroyed, and the house was an absolute mess. There was no way we could live there! They estimate that reconstruction will take a long time. At this time, all they can do is to live in another place temporarily. Despite the present harsh environment, the missionaries here said that although they have nothing now, they believe that God will help them rebuild. I also believe it, because in this ministry, God is the One doing the work!

Continuing the Voice of Tree City (Lebanon)
Starting in October 2023, war has been added to the list of this country’s problems … and no one knows when the war will end.

We All Share the Same Problems: Choices and Opportunities
Nexus Center coworkers are facing the pain and death caused by the war, as are the whole nation and especially displaced people across the country. But as Christians, we should respond differently from the world! … this is an opportunity for us to choose to share the words of Jesus bravely, to let His light illuminate the darkness around us! We are called to proclaim His love … He cares for everyone; His love is boundless! Sharing His words can help people understand His grace and hope and can allow more people to enter the Kingdom of God. We pray that Jesus will heal and restore many more broken hearts!
Nexus Center’s Choice — Let Our Light Illuminate the Darkness
Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble
Since the beginning of the war, we have opened our doors to help those who are fleeing and displaced. Among these are four families with a total of 22 people that Nexus Center has taken in, and our co-workers have also opened their homes. We not only provide accommodation — we visit, we love, and we care. In this war, refugees and displaced families have lost everything they have.
Some responded: “We were displaced, penniless, with nothing, and our own relatives could not care for us or had abandoned us, but you gave us accommodation. Nexus Center became our refuge where we felt protected by Christ’s Love surrounding us. We feel warmth, peace, and hope in the midst of brokenness. Nexus Center saved our lives.”
Some asked, Why are we received like this?
We shared, “It’s all about Jesus, because Jesus loved the world and sacrificed Himself; He healed and helped everyone, and we are following in His footsteps. He loves you deeply and is with you, even in these circumstances.” One person among them said, “Here, I discovered the Bible. Even though I don’t fully understand it, I felt there was truth here, and I wanted to know more.”

Seeds of Love:
There is a teacher at Nexus Center, a Muslim who has been attending daily devotions and Sunday worship for several months. During the war, she saw how we opened the Center to care for displaced people. One day she said to us, “You honor God’s love not only with your words, but also with your actions. I want to learn more about God’s Word just like you.” She continued, “If you want, I can offer my house for displaced people, and I can go stay with my sister.”
We were deeply moved by her proposal. The place she was living was something like a tent. We were deeply moved by her selfless love. She showed us that God’s love had grown in her heart. It is the work of the Holy Spirit to sow “seeds of love,” and we pray that she continues to grow in faith and that God will use her to glorify Christ.

Continuing the Cry of Olive City (Syria)
House of Hope – In February 2023, Olive City added a major earthquake to its various difficulties, making people’s lives here even worse…
After the Syrian civil war began in 2011, refugees began fleeing from Syria to Lebanon. But recently, Lebanese and Syrian people have been going to Syria to escape the war. So more children and women looking for food have been appearing on the streets around the House of Hope than before. The coworkers there have chosen to continue obeying God’s Word: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink” (Matthew 25:35).
For us who have enough food, a few leftovers or a piece of bread is an ordinary thing; but for those who are hungry, it is their daily dream — if obtained, it can bring the treasure of tears. For people who search for food in garbage dumps every day, even the simplest food provides the light of hope — hope for survival!
We walk the streets every day looking for hungry children to give them sandwiches, to bring a moment of comfort and care. It’s heartwarming to see the smiles on children’s faces when they receive their food, as it’s probably their only meal of the day. Their joy inspires us to keep going.
Please pray for our mission to find a hungry child, give her a sandwich, and share the love of Christ to create lasting change!

House of Hope – A Priceless Childhood Experience:
“First Time To Get Away From Home, First Trip to the Zoo”! For these children whose lives are full of difficulty, “travel” is a rare experience. Half the students are orphans and half come from families in which they’ve experienced neglect or abuse.
The faces of these children (who’d never seen any animals other than cats, dogs, and poultry) were filled with wonder and excitement. The animals amazed them. They asked countless questions and shared their joy with the caregivers and volunteers. The trip was more than just an outing — it was a unique respite from their everyday difficulties, and the journey was filled with laughter.

In October, three Nexus co-workers traveled from Lebanon to Egypt to attend a youth conference and share their work in Lebanon with the Egyptian church.

Under the flames of war, the service of Nexus Lebanon and Syria has not stopped but rather increased, and we have become more fervent in saving souls. However, our co-workers abroad have been anxious and worried. ………
Song of Solomon 4:7–8
You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.
Come with me from Lebanon, my bride, come with me from Lebanon.
The text describes the groom inviting the bride to leave her hometown, symbolizing the new life they are about to begin. May the word of the Lord be fulfilled; may a new life, a new vitality, begin in Lebanon and the Middle East!
Sincerely, Candy & Nexus Mission
