A Letter From Friendship City

Six years ago, we arrived in Friendship City and began meeting Muslim university students. We began leading them to study the Bible, and now those students have all graduated. Some of them were quite good, but others were not stable, and during the month of Ramadan they would go back to their traditions whenever they felt like it.

Lately we’ve been thinking about our long-term plan, beginning with bringing local people to faith in Christ and continuing with discipling them. When they have matured, then they will be able to serve and preach the gospel to those of their own culture and language.

We’ve already chosen a certain suburban area to work in, an area where there are university graduates we’ve known for years. First, we’ll choose five Christian university graduates who are hungry for God and have a sense of mission, and rent a place to begin discipleship training. We also need materials on the topic of preaching the Gospel to Muslims, because we feel the training and experience we had before are not enough.

Please lift up this plan, that we can conduct our ministry wisely and effectively; and also please lift up the five students, that they can become strong seeds for the Gospel, be built up, become mature, and bear fruit.

Levant -Tree City – Ben’s letter

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Peace to you! Thank God for His grace in bringing us to the Levant!

Before we left China, Teacher Chen and his wife invited us to stay with them for two weeks. During that time we were very blessed! They gave us counseling in matters of our personal lives, our marriage relationship, preparing to go to the Levant, and other matters. They also gave us the chance to share in church and introduced us to some new friends who care about our mission overseas.

On the way to Levant we changed planes in Moscow; the total trip took 17 hours. God protected our three-month-old daughter, little Eva, and she had a very smooth trip!

After our arrival Eva was especially missing River City (where she worked before), but in meeting and sharing with our new coworkers on the field, our hearts were comforted. We also joined in an international student fair, where our friend who teaches Chinese made a lot of different kinds of Chinese food and invited her Chinese friends to help her sell it.

People here really like our little daughter, and our coworkers took us to the clinic with her to get her shots. On Sunday we go to a church meeting, eat together, and play soccer. Brother Ben is learning welding and construction skills. Here, every day we hear the loudspeakers blaring from the mosques; and every time I hear that sound, I respond by praying!

Another piece of good news is that my test results have come out (regarding my teaching Chinese as a second language); I’m qualified to teach at the intermediate level.

A Letter from Olive City

Dear Friends,
We have been serving in Olive City for eighteen months. I would like to send you this report.

Part of our ministry is distributing food parcels. Each one contains sugar, rice, cooking oil, olive oil, powdered milk, lentils, beans, canned food, and other items.

We also make cash donations and distribute heaters and fuel. Because electricity in Damascus is frequently cut off, people use car batteries hooked to LED lights for light at night.

In this area, many people have urgent medical needs, but we are very limited. But we try to help with the most urgent needs occasionally as we are able.

A look of love and affirmation comforts the heart, just as a word of consolation does.

We sincerely invite you, on behalf of the Lord Jesus, to bring a share of hope and peace and give it into the hands of the orphans and widows, those who have lost hope, who are wasting away mourning for fathers and husbands lost in the war. Only love can drive away their fears and put the enemy to flight.

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” (1 John 4:18)
